At least one manic episode (elevated or irritable mood, decreased need for sleep, or erratic behavior which impairs functioning) lasting at least one week; and
Who also may experience depression (sad mood almost all the time, decreased pleasure or interest in activities, decreased energy/fatigue) lasting two weeks or more
At least one episode of hypomania (a less intense manic episode that doesn’t impair one’s functioning and doesn’t last as long as mania, but is a distinct change in one’s mood and is noticeable by others) that lasts four or more days; and
Still experience periods of clinically significant abnormal mood elevation or depression
